13th May 2018

My old friend again (see the other shots of this loco from 2017 in the Derby section for an explanation), Colas Rail 37099 "Merl Evans 1947 - 2016", and at Derby again too! This time it's arriving at 14.42 on the 10.00 Heaton T&RSMD to Derby R.T.C. test train, rolling through platform 3 rather than 4 as booked, and expected! But thanks to the gloriously sunny day the paintwork on the loco is positively gleaming.
In the background is the clock tower of the roundhouse, now part of Derby college. And the construction of a new island platform, on the site of the sidings once adjacent to the station, is in progress. I have a feeling that this will be a very different-looking station when I next visit!
37099 followed me back to the west country too, working to Exeter on the following day, Monday.
