Former FM rail Class 33 no. 33103 "Swordfish" is stabled with 31454 "The Heart of Wessex" (in Inter City livery) in the sidings alongside the station.
The time is 18.44 and I'm viewing this scene from inside the comfort of my railway coach, a "Merrymaker" railtour returning to Taunton from York. These sidings have since been removed to make way for an additional island platform.
Behind the locos is the former Derby Works Roundhouse. At the time it was being restored for reuse as the Derby College Campus, having been bought the previous year by Derby City Council for £1!.
