I can't have a photo of the Royal Albert Bridge without showing a train that has symbolised rail travel from London to Penzance since the mid-seventies, namely the High Speed Train. Now in their twilight years as long distance express trains they still cling on to this prestigious role, although the next generation of trains will be introduced in 2018.

For now, I am happy to enjoy this view of the 1A81 07.41 Penzance to London Paddington service, headed by First Great Western power car 43028 (43069 was on the rear) as it approaches the main bridge at 09.40, having just called at Saltash station.
