Looking south, from the north platform, Class 08 shunter no. 08447 is running in from the south, and will go across to stable over to the sidings on the left, alongside 31201, which is out of view. The locomotive shed was located on this side, and after it closed it became a wagon repair works. The Class 08 duty ended in 1997. I don't know when the wagon repair works closed but the area became disused, and more recently part of it has been turned into a station car park.

The steelworks were still open at this time, situated in the far distance, behind the B&Q. The through lines are still connected but probably not being used very much, and will be disconnected in a few years.
