15th July 1993

15th July 1993 - Workington, Cumbria.
Long before Direct Rail Services handled nuclear traffic, it was the responsibility of British Rail, latterly the Trainload Coal sector, to handle these special trains. A fleet of Brush Class 31s were allocated for the work and would stable in and around Workington when not required. Hence the reason 31302 is stabled in the south bay, then still protected by a canopy. Another 31, 31201, is out of sight, parked up on the other side of the wall to the right.
