The main attraction for the diesel gala, is Clayton Class 17 no. D8568, seen here putting on the power with the 2T08 11.25 Buckfastleigh to Totnes service as it leaves Staverton at 11.48. This is the loco's first visit to Devon, never mind the South Devon Railway! A unique design for a British diesel loco, it made an interesting sight operating on this typical GWR branch line.
