Electrification had only just arrived at Skipton by the time of this photo, within the previous year. Electrified services over the Airedale route were first worked by first generation EMUs, the Class 308s, built in 1959 for the Great Eastern lines. Here unit no. 308165 is observed stabled with another unit under the "knitting".
