Sub-zero Sixty-Six! At 08.56 Freightliner Class 66 no. 66503 "The Railway Magazine" heads through a frozen Creech St. Michael with the 6Y41 06.12 Hinksey Yard to Crediton departmental train. This has been made up of 10 loaded MRA Network Rail bogie ballast wagons, plus 4 YSA "Salmon" loaded sleeper carriers. There were a few trains heading for the Barnstaple branch this weekend for track replacement work.
I had hoped for a brighter morning than the one we got, noting the day before that there would be a hard frost and the possibility of sunny spells. When I arrived at this location it was decidedly dull! ISO 2000 did the trick! Not ideal but I think the image conveys the cold atmosphere quite well.
