30th Dec 2022

30th Dec 2022 - Bradford-on-Tone, Somerset
The period between Christmas and New Year is usually a quiet time for my photographic activities. The combination of poor weather, other commitments and a general feeling of apathy towards the time of year often results in a lack of activity with my camera post-Xmas, but a casual look at Real Time Trains caught my attention to this train - but what might this be I wondered?

At 14.52 (the train was 42 late thanks to flooding in the Patchway area) the 6V08 10.18 Margam T. C. to Exeter Riverside N. Y., hauled by DB Cargo Class 66 no. 66030, is climbing uphill towards Whiteball. As it turned out it was a short train comprising a rake of empty FCA/FIA/FYA bogie flats (a "bare-table" train in American parlance), the purpose of which was unclear to me - for storage perhaps? Anyway, the important thing was that the sun came out, and that has been a rare commodity this week, and in fact the drive over to Bradford from home was mostly in drizzle. So in the end the effort was worth the effort!
