KC Streetcar takes riders 2.2 miles from Union Station up to River Market North, although plans are there to expand both north and south. Opened in 2016, the system currently carries just over 5000 riders a day, and the service is free. There are just 4 street cars, built by Spanish company CAF at their facility in New York. The first, no 801, is standing outside Union Station at 09.22, about to leave.
