HST:GTi - Great Western Railway "Castle" Class 255 "mini-HSTs are now a regular sight on this stretch of railway. At 15.36 the 2C79 (14.00 Cardiff Central) 14.54 Bristol Temple Meads to Taunton service approaches Bridgwater with 43155 "St. Mawes Castle" leading and 43094 "Rougemont Castle" trailing.

On my way back after a visit to Bristol I nipped off the motorway to this easy-to-reach location at Downend, Bridgwater. This view is normally only suitable in the late afternoon. I was nit entirely surprised to see how much the trees had grown since I was last here. But GWR have been getting Network Rail to trim back the lineside so as not to scratch their nice Class 800/802s, so you would have thought it would be clearer than this! And there-in lies a story, given that on the day this photo had been taken the whole Class 800/802 were more-or-less withdrawn due to some serious cracks appearing in the bodies. Dare we dream to see HSTs back at Paddington again?
