10th April 2000

In the original Parcels Sector Red and Grey livery Class 47 no. 47575 "City of Hereford" leads a Serco test train past the Taunton & Bridgwater canal at Firepool, at 12.58. Although out of sight, RES-liveried 47788 "Captain Peter Manisty RN" is bringing up the rear of this topped-and-tailed train. These trains are now of course operated by Network Rail and can also produce some classic traction from time to time, but Duffs are unlikely to appear again any time soon! For a while I visited this spot a number of times, especially in the summer, as it was a very attractive composition, but alas I fear it has now all become overgrown.
