A beautiful spring day. The warmth of the sun, the birds are singing and the bubbling water of the river behind me - is this the perfect rural idyll? Well yes, and now let's add a steam train to the scene!
At 12.39 ex-LMS "Jubilee" 6XP 4-6-0 no. 45596 "Bahamas" starts its attack on Honiton Incline as it leaves Seaton Junction behind at Umborne. This is a Railway Touring Company mainline railtour, appropriately named "The Atlantic Coast Express", running as 1Z20 07.14 London Waterloo to Exeter St. Davids, where it arrived at 13.30.
Three hours later it would leave Exeter and return to London via Bristol, Westbury and Salisbury, so via the GWR route. Would have looked better with a Bulleid Pacific up front of course, but I'll take this happily!
You can enjoy the moment too - watch the video on my You Tube channel: https://youtu.be/B7JpGVDb-CI
