31st May 1987

Class 25 no. 25034 had arrived two days previously, on 29th May, along with 25037, 25095 and 25190. It was the 301st Class 25 to be withdrawn, in December 1986. It would eventually end up in the famous stack in November, and was broken up in Marc 1988.
In life it spent a few years in the late 1970s allocated to Haymarket and Eastfield, hence the Scottish trait of placing the bodyside number. But the unofficial name of "Castell Aberystwyth/ Aberystwyth Castle" is pure Welsh of course, placed on the side of the loco at some point during its last years, along with the 89C shed pate, Machynlleth on the Cambrian Line. That nasty scrape on the lower cab side has been there since March 1982!
