Class 47/7 no. 47706 "Strathclyde" has had a tough life on the Glasgow/Edinburgh push-pulls. Here it is after arriving at Waverley station with the 13.00 Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh train. A short pause and it'll be pack west very shortly. The former North British Hotel can be seen rising above the loco. This was an everyday scene during the '80s and I managed to travel the route on these trains quite a few times on and off through the decade, but it was never going to last. The irony was that I would be reacquainted with some of the 47/7s on my own patch during the very late '80s and early '90s, working the ex-LSWR route between London Waterloo and Exeter.
