(2) Turning around from my viewing position, as this Swansea to Shrewsbury train departed at 15.33, BR Derby Class 108 DMU set no. S958 rasps away, heading past the old goods shed at this lovely rural location. The sun is warm, the grasshoppers are chirping in the long grass, and the aroma of hot creosote on the wooden sleepers is strong in the summertime air. To me this is rural railways of the pre-privatisation era at its best, long before standards declined and the permanent way was allowed to run wild. A recent view that I have seen online suggest that trees now hem in the railway here. But the goods shed still stands.
