22nd Jan 1987

It was a grey day so it seems appropriate to present this image in black and white. So much has changed at Exeter Central since I took this image. The Blue Circle Cement depot on the right has long gone, now developed with apartment buildings. No more Class 50s either!
In the distance 50027 "Lion" is heading the 11.10 London Waterloo to Exeter St. Davids and will shortly descend the 1 in 37 bank into St. Davids station. In front of me is 50010 "Monarch", always recognisable at the time thanks to the helpful "D410" markings on the head code box, although it is starting to wear off. "Monarch" is on the 14.17 Exeter St. Davids to London Waterloo.
It may not be colourful today, but the memories are bright and clear in my mind.
