I wanted to get a shot of the train to Badulla leaving from the opposite side of the platform. Noticing that passengers just seemed to walk where they wanted to I presumed that I could too. Our guide, however, was more than a little concerned when I strode off across the tracks, calling out to me to be careful. Not because of the risk of the train moving, but because of "vipers" in the long grass! From that moment I made sure I stayed well-away from anything growing higher than my ankles, and thereafter found myself looking very carefully to where I stepped! At 08.55 the Colombo to Badulla service departs behind M6 Class no. 795. One thing that did strike me as soon as I saw the railway at this station was the weight of the rail used. It all looks very lightweight.
