56131 "Ellington Colliery" slowly approaches the station past Barnetby East box at 15.29 with the 6D66 15.20 Immingham to Doncaster "Enterprise" service, a lovely mixed freight of wagonload traffic.
56131 is named after the last deep mine in the UK to extract coal from beneath the sea. It was known by the locals as "Big E". By 1986 the workforce reached 2,170 men, who were lifting 45,000 tons of coal each week. British Coal closed the mine 1994, but it was reopened by RJB Mining in 1995 and continued for another 10 years until a catastrophic flooding of the mine rendered it inoperable, so it was closed.
