At this time the regular iron ore trains were in the hands of doubleheaded Class 37s. What a racket they made, lovely! 37106 and 37275 storm through on the empties back to Immingham Docks. Several trains a day, around the clock, fed the steel works at Scunthorpe with imported iron ore, and still do to this day, albeit with more modern motive power.
Also notable in this view is the original footbridge, swept away and replaced by a huge monstrosity of a bridge that replaced it, to cater for disabled access.
37275 can now be found living a much more sedate life hauling tourists and enthusiasts on the South Devon Railway. You couldn't think of a more contrasting situation to the one you see here.
