This view from the Haverty pedestrian bridge is one of the classics, with the iconic "Western Auto" sign atop the Western Auto Building in Grand Boulevard, the backdrop for this west-bound intermodal, passing Union Station at 19.40. The three units on the front weyre ES44C4 no. 6920, and consecutively-numbered C44-9W units nos. 4395 and 4394.
The Western Auto building was built in 1914 for the Coca Cola Company. Built on a triangular plot of land the 12-storey building has a distinctive shape as a result. It was later occupied by the Western Auto Supply Company from 1951. The sign was erected in 1952 and remarkably is actually 73 feet high, and was only relit in July 2018 after many years of disuse. The building now provides residential accommodation.
