17th June 2018 - Great Central Railway, Loughborough to Leicester, Leicestershire
Whilst taking a ride on a train hauled by D5185 from Quorn & Woodhouse to Rothley, we pulled in to the up loop at Swithland Sidings, to alloow two trains to pass us on the double track main line. Here is 70013 "Oliver Cromwell" operating a train from Leicester North to Loughborough at 12.57.

Swithland Sidings is very unusual in that it boasts a complete set of former GWR lower quadrant signals to control the movement of trains, where upper quadrant LMS signals would have been more appropriate. When I asked why they were here the answer was on the lines of "well, it's all we could get"! Fair enough, I suppose!
