Great Central Railway, Loughborough to Leicester, Leicestershire
Not a railway that I have visited very often, but notable for being one of the few preserved railways based on a mainline, not a branch line, and boasting a double track main line, and a branch line of its own to Mountsorrel! It's actually a lovely line, passing through some very nice countryside, and the hope for the future of joining with the separate GCR (North) at Ruddington will double the length of the line from its current 8 miles, so there is much to look forward to here. It is arguable that the line should never have actually closed in the first place, being the most recent main line built in the UK, opening in 1899, and built to manage the mainland European loading gauge, something that would be have been very useful to have had in the 21st century! Oh well, that's just typical of British railway history...
