6th July 2007

This is the new 210m four-span Portrack Viaduct, near Holywood, built in 2003 to replace an earlier structure. It crosses the River Nith. The line was moved slightly north at the same time and the old formation can still be seen in the foreground.
At 17.59 an unidentified EWS Class 66 crosses the viaduct on the 6E90 14.06 Killoch to West Burton Power Station loaded coal train. In the distance the tail-end of the Freightliner-operated 4S15 10.00 Cottam Power Station to New Cumnock empties can be seen disappearing northwards.
Just to left of this site is the Garden of Cosmic Speculation, sculptured gardens inspired by maths and science.
