6th July 2007 - Glasgow & South Western Route, via Kilmarnock
Located on the freight-only Ayr to Mauchline Junction line, Annbank is a small village, and former mining community, 5 miles east of Ayr. At 11.10 66198 heads the 6S63 02.32 Healey Mills to Greenburn empty HTA coal hoppers, a train that has taken a very circuitous route to get here. From the south it would go through New Cumnock to Kilmarnock, Troon, Falkland Yard (Ayr) then on to this line through Annbank to Mauchline, then down to Bank Junction and onto the Greenburn branch. Loaded trains for the south do this route in reverse! A bit of a performance but no doubt the legacy of various line closures and operational requirements.
