Glasgow & South Western Route, via Kilmarnock
Built by various companies the route eventually became the main line for the Glasgow & South Western Railway, in competition with the Caledonian Railway’s main line over Beattock. Today, as well as supporting its own passenger service and hosting a diminishing freight operation, the line acts as a useful diversionary route.
With some very attractive scenery and a route that weaves its way around the contours of the beautiful lowland terrain, the line offers some very attractive locations for photographers.
