Margam Knuckle Yard, Margam TMD & TATA Steel Port Talbot

Margam Knuckle Yard is easily viewed from the footpath that crosses the South Wales Main Line here, although you do have to pay special attention to trains approaching. The yard is a relatively new creation from the late 1980s, born out of the demise of the old Margam Marshalling Yard. I do hope that the steel works has a future! The Traction Maintenance Depot, as was, is no more, with all locomotive servicing being moved to a smaller facility in Knuckle Yard. The TMD opened with the Marshalling Yard in 1960, and closed down in September 2008.
