Knaresborough, North Yorkshire
This is a lovely town, with its ruined castle, spectacular viaduct over the River Nidd and a beautifully-preserved railway station with curious signal box built on the end of a terrace of houses. Electrification is mooted for the line, so for the moment it still retains an air of traditionalism. The trains may be unexciting (Pacers have made this route their home for years), but it's still worth the visit.
