8th Nov 2018 - Abington, South Lanarkshire (WCML)
(1) For many years, when driving along the A74(M) and A702 motorway and road, I have always found myself drawn to the view to the east, overlooking the wide expanse of the River Clyde valley and the Lowther hills beyond. This is the first occasion after all this time that I have taken a view of a train here. I've seen plenty pass, but have never been in a position to get the shot before. So this is a particular success for me after all these years!

At 11.49 Freightliner Class 66 no. 66547 is rolling down the northern bank of the incline from Beattock, having passed Crawford and now on the approach to Abington. The train is the 4S53 (Q) 05.03 Daventry Int Rft Terminal to Coatbridge FLT. I love the colours and texture of the hills beyond, a result of the changing season affecting the heather and grasses on the hillsides.

The turbines on the hills above are part of the massive 350 megawatt Clyde Wind Farm, something that I have seen growing bit by bit each year from 2009. Building lasted 3 years and was completed in 2012, culminating in the erection of 152 wind turbines, powering 200,000 homes in Scotland.
