Ferryside station is a gem of a place, its location being almost right on the beach where the River Tywi joins the sea. On the day of my visit the weather was warm and sunny, adding to the pleasure of being there. Its claim to fame is that it is the most westerly outpost of semaphore signalling on the former GWR system. With this location, and the preceding signal box at Pembury, these are the only semaphores on the GWR main line.
Viewed from the station footbridge at 11.38 Transport for Wales Class 158 no. 158825 shoots past the down home signal at speed, on the 1V34 06.30 Manchester Piccadilly to Milford Haven service. Only certain trains stop here on request.
