Penzance & Long Rock Depot, Cornwall

Penzance has an atmosphere that seems to go with any "frontier" town, that is, a place at the extremes of the land where people arrive to go somewhere else. Maybe it's not quite as distinct as other places such as Fishguard, Pembroke and the like, but it does have a slightly bleak outlook across a wide expanse of sea and the buildings themselves have a gritty presence about them, weathered and worn due to the necessity to resist the force of the weather at this exposed community on the tip of the land. But the fact that it is the western terminus of a main line from London does at least give it a link with civilisation, such as that is anyway!
