Horsted Keynes signal box is original, built in 1882 and originally one of two at this station, this being the south box. Horsted Keynes was a junction, for the Ardingly branch, and was also originally electrified with the SR 750vDC third rail system, so until closure in 1963 this was a busy place. Originally having 33 levers, in 1914 this was increased to 40 following some changes to the location of the Ardingly branch junction. When the railway took over the line this box had been stripped bare but is now in full operational condition and continues to perform its duties as intended.
