A general view looking along the tracks at Tidal Sidings. If nothing else this image tells you just how accessible and open things were just a couple of decades ago! I can't imagine that you could walk into a freight yard as easily as this nowadays. In the distance Class 08 no. 08955 is stabled for the weekend. Tidal Sidings, or Yard as it used to be referred as, is right in the heart of the industrial area of Cardiff and its docks. The steelworks dominated traffic here, but until recently many other industries were served or based here, such as grain, oil and of course coal. Birds also once had a scrapyard in the area, no doubt the final destination of many steam locomotives. and other rolling stock.
