12th August 1987

The Gloucester Railway Carriage & Wagon Company built Class 122 single-car DMU no. W55005 in 1963 and was used in the West Country for the first 5 years before being transferred with others to Scotland. Strangely, a month after this photo was taken it was transferred back to Devon, to Plymouth Laira! Withdrawn in 1992 it went into preservation at the battlefield Line, Shackerstone. It is seen here stabled in the bay at Crewe, numbered M55005.
