071 Class no. 080 departs the station on the 17.30 Dublin Heuston to Cork express. These locomotives still work on the Irish Rail system, but now only on freight and infrastructure trains. Built in 1976 by General Motors at La Grange, their 12-645E3B engines (rated at 2475hp) also gave me a taste of things to come, American railroads featuring heavily in my future travels.
