"Roarer" no. 81004 is parked up alongside the retaining wall on the west side of the station, where so many locomotives have been stabled before, and continue to be so. Originally designated as AL1, these were the first AC mainline locomotives delivered to BR, between 1959 and 1964, and amongst the first to be withdrawn. I was pleased to be able to see a couple on this visit.
