Carlisle, Cumbria

As well as being on the WCML route, trains for the Cumbrian Coast, Newcastle, Glasgow via Kilmarnock, and of course the Settle to Carlisle line, all use this station. The station is a grand place to stop and observe trains. 102 miles south of Glasgow and 299 miles north of London, the station was originally jointly owned by the Caledonian and Lancaster & Carlisle Railways. The overall roof, recently restored, provides a wonderful backdrop to the railway scene and is a favourite location for railway photography.
