Driving eastwards from Grand Island Highway 30 (The Lincoln Highway) parallels the Union Pacific "Overland Route" to Omaha. On this day there were plenty of trains, mostly westbounds, including this "junk train", or manifest. In Britain we would probably call this a mixed goods train, but somehow this seems somewhat out of scale to reality. This location is the junction with 3rd Road, at 11.45, with SD70M no. 4683 and C44AC no. 6995 in charge.
