Bournemouth, Dorset

For many years Bournemouth was the place where Weymouth train changed from Electric to diesel traction, with the addition of a Class 33/1 to a 4TC and 4REP EMU combination. The REP had the power (3,200hp!) and the 4TC was unpowered. But the 750vDC third rail was extended to Weymouth in 1988. When I first visited Bournemouth station it was in a very tatty and rundown condition, much unchanged since the 1960s. But it has had a lot of refurbishment since then and is far more presentable.
