Aberdare, Mid Glamorgan

Passenger trains stop at a new station opened in 1988, and the old Aberdare (High Level) station remains - derelict on my visits. From here the line continued for about 5 miles to Hirwaun, where the last deep coal mine in Wales was located - Tower Colliery. This closed in 2008, and thereafter the site was used to load coal from nearby open cast mining. The last coal train left in 2017. Some aggregate traffic has been moved over the lien I believe, but I think the line is effectively closed now, waiting developments that might see passenger trains extended to Hirwaun one day. We'll see.
