(1) Locomotive action on this line is so rare that there are times when you just have to go out and capture it, whatever the conditions! Today was probably up there in terms of bad weather, torrential rain and flooding everywhere. The sort of day that sensible people would stay at home. I'm clearly not one of those people!
The line is closed for a week (I think) whilst engineers work on a site just east of Sherborne station. It looked to me that they were digging a channel for either cabling or drainage, I was not sure which. The train, the 6G27 22.18 Westbury Down T. C. to Yeovil Junction, arrived overnight (having run as far as Chard Junction to reverse back to Yeovil, such is the madness with the track layout at Yeovil. Traction is provided by GBRf and their celebrity Class 66 no. 66779 "Evening Star", in BR green livery to commemorate the fact that this was the last Class 66 to be built, is seen in the distance, just. Seen at 11.39 and not in a great place for a better view sadly, so not the photo I had hoped for. No. 66732 "GBRf The First Decade 1999-2009 John Smith - MD" (what a mouthful that is!) is out of site beneath me on the bridge I am standing on.
