Built for the Great Eastern Railway, Thetford signal box was opened in 1883, and closed 2012 after signalling of the line was transferred to Cambridge power box. In 2013 it was given a Grade II listing. It's an example of a GER Type 4 signal box, one of only six surviving.

BR Regional Railways Class 156 DMUs nos. 156412 and 156411 pass the box as they leave on the 11.45 Norwich to Peterborough service.
