It's 09.37 and the first photo of a marathon day recording trains along the sea wall between Dawlish Warren and Dawlish, an idea that had been ruminating in my mind for sometime, and had eventually become a reality!
Thursday's being the one day a week for two freights in Devon, plus the wish to record the HST in normal mainline service before replacement by the new bi-model IET Class 800s, were the main motivators.
The first train of the day was the new short-formation HST operating 2C45 09.26 Exeter St. Davids to Penzance. The first of the new "Castle" class trains, they feature fully refurbished stock, including plug doors. 43198 "Oxfordshire 2007" and 43187 are at either end of the four coaches.
