After a night of heavy rain it was pleasing to see bright sunshine through the bedroom windows, so a quick decision was made to pop out to see a train or two before breakfast. At 08.09 a southbound Virgin West Coast Pendolino, no. 390049 "Virgin Express" passes Eden Valley Goods Loops with the 1M07 06.30 Glasgow Central to London Euston. An overnight lineside fire in a timber yard further south, near Milton Keynes, may mean that this train has to terminate short of its destination.
