Two trains in this shot, with an east-bound SP manifest waiting in the siding at 08.29 in the morning. Up front we have AC4400CW no. 121, SD45R no. 7457, leased unit (MKCX) no. 9420 and tunnel motor SD40T-2 no. 8265. Helpers in the form of SD40Ms 8579 and 8581 are giving a hand.
Meanwhile, descending towards Caliente is this Santa Fe train, with 5 units on the head-end: 8-40CW no. 836, 8-40BW no. 541, B40-8 no. 7411, 8-40BW no. 519 and an SD60M, no. 9264.
The sun has not quite got over the hills behind me but this shot is still satisfying, illustrating the geography of the railroad at this point very well. The SF train will curl all around behind me before it arrives on my right to pass the SP train.
