West Lancashire Light Railway, Hesketh Bank, Lancashire

This was a bit of an unknown railway to me, but as it is located close to my mother-in-law's home it has been a fairly recent discovery for me. Started in 1967 by 6 school boys the line is 430 yards (393 metres) long and runs on land once part of a brickworks. Starting at Hesketh Bank (Becconsall station) it runs through a tree=lined route to Delph, where the engine will run-round and return to the beginning. It's short but exudes character, and the origins of the railway is a lovely story. The fact that it has been operating ever since its inception is testament to the excellent support that it gets from a dedicated team of volunteers.
