Wemyss Bay, Renfrewshire
This fabulous station is definitely worth visiting when in the Glasgow area. The ornate Edwardian designs of the buildings and overall roof were created by James Miller for the Caledonian Railway, and opened in 1903. It was extensively renovated between 2014 and 2016 and looks absolutely fantastic. The Friends of Wemyss Bay Station occupy part of the building and run a second hand bookshop and gallery there (well worth a visit) and there is also a cafe. A useful history booklet can be purchased for £5 from the shop, and illustrates the construction of the station in every detail. I had been here before, many years ago, but it was great to be back and study the architecture more thoroughly this time.
