Florida East Coast Railway, FL
The Florida East Coast is a relatively isolated system, and depends mostly on the shipping of limestone as its main income, as well as conventional manifest traffic and intermodel. The main route is the 351 miles between Jacksonville in the north, to Miami in the south. Tropicana traffic also originates here, although the sight of solid rakes of Tropicana reefer cars has now ended, the traffic being absorbed into regular trains I believe. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit the main maintenance shops at New Smyrna Beach, and witness a special business car train, whilst in Florida. It was hot, hot, hot, and humid in August 2017, the stormy season that often results in heavy downpours and thunderstorms in late afternoon. Most sensible Americans stay away from Florida at this time of year!
