Spring Steam Gala 2011: It's definitely spring time, evidenced by the daffodils in bloom. At 12.30 ex-GWR 2800 Class 2-8-0 no. 2807 heads away from Watchet with the 12.00 Bishops Lydeard to Minehead.
This angle has allowed me to include a bit of the harbour, once a busy place where, amongst other commodities, was used for the shipping of iron ore from the Brendon Hills. The West Somerset Mineral Railway ran from the Brendon Hills mines to here and interchanged with the West Somerset Railway, which initially terminated at Watchet. When the line eventually extended to Minehead the terminus at Watchet became a through station.
