20th Feb 1997

At 10.27, and the sixth train movement seeen in half an hour, 58030 heads north with yet another coal working. The old Burton Salmon station was located just here, and in fact I had arrived at this location through what was once the station entrance. Back in 1997 things like gates giving access to the railway were commonly left open, and although I may have been somehwere I shouldn't have been, as long as you were sensible you seemed to be fine. Common sense clearly prevailed back in those pre-millenial days! I photgraphed 58030, in EWS livery, heading a charter through Axminster a few years later (see that section for the image) and soon after that it went off to sunnier climes, working in Spain, where it still languishes today.
